Pep Guardiola: “I do not believe” Jurgen Klopp on winning the Premier League
Pep Guardiola says Jurgen Klopp is not right when he says Liverpool have no power to challenge Manchester City in the Premier League.

Liverpool boss Klopp said he was “unsure” whether his side would be able to put pressure on City after a nine-point lead at the top of the Premier League on Thursday. Yet City boss Guardiola does not think even Klopp agrees with what he says and expects it to take big points to secure the crown.

“I do not agree with him,” said Guardiola ahead of City’s trip to Norwich on Saturday.

“Of course (possible) and he thinks so, otherwise he will not be a competitor. Of course he believes.

“In football, anything can happen. But he knows he has to win a lot of games – as we know we have to win a lot of games – to fight for the title again. “

Liverpool will finish with 96 points if they win the remaining 15 games. And Guardiola thinks they can do it.

The Reds scored 99 points in the 2020 World Cup after picking up 97 points when they finished second at City, by one point, last year.

“Both teams have shown over the years that they can achieve incredible success in a row,” said Guardiola, whose team scored 100 points in 2018.

“If one team can do it, they can do it again. Both teams have the same managers, more or less the same ideas.

“Both of them can win 16, 17 in a row. They can do it, we can do it too. That is the reality of the matter.

“Going to Liverpool is nothing. We have to win a lot of games – a lot – with a lot of points, more than 90 points, to reach 95 or 96, to be champions. I’m sure of that, of course.”

Guardiola believes the rivalry between City and Liverpool in recent years has intensified in the Premier League.

The Spaniard said: “One day (time) I won the 100 meters Olympics it was 11 seconds, then 10 seconds and then, less than 10 seconds. This is a competition.

“Now Rafael Nadal has 21 major slams. That’s the standard.

Guardiola: The opponent is very good
“Liverpool and ourselves, we helped improve the quality of certainty. When we were able to get 100 points and after 98. And after they did 99 – both teams made the other teams see this is the level.”

Guardiola sees Liverpool’s strengths clear now. In fact he thinks they are enough to catch City who have won 13 of their last 14 games and drawn one.

Not only do the Merseysiders have a game in hand at City. But they will still visit the Etihad Stadium this season.

Guardiola said: “After our contribution in the last 14 games, we are just six points ahead, because our opponent is very good.”

“In the current situation the opponent will be 10 or 12 points (in the past) with the number of games we have won.”
