Xavi: Napoli game will show Barcelona level
They feel they have the quality of the Champions League
Xavi: There will be football
Xavi Hernandez is optimistic that Barcelona can reach Napoli in the second round of the Champions League, but warns that the game will test their mettle.
In last week’s 1-1 draw at the Camp Nou, Barcelona missed a number of chances.
“Barcelona did well when we had a style of play and we lost a little bit,” Xavi told a news conference ahead of the game.
“We are on the road to recovery. This is an easy test to see if we can [do] because our opponents are in the Champions League.
“Every game is final and even more so if we don’t do homework from home.
“We have to play on their pitch, at [Stadio] Diego Armando Maradona. We have reasons to show that we can compete. It’s a concern because it’s the next game. (We have to go) every day. .
“They are long-term rivals in the Champions League. It is good to see if Barcelona can compete in Europe with a strong team.”
“I think they will put a lot of pressure on us. It will be difficult for us to play half the game because they are real enemies.”
Xavi admits that it will be a great disappointment if he is knocked out at this stage of the competition.
“It would be a huge disappointment if it was eliminated,” he said. “It simply came to our notice then.
“We played really well in the first game and now we have to play here.
“If we are at the Barcelona level we have seen recently, we have a good chance.
“I think it’s a tough game.”
After Ousmane Dembele was told to leave Barcelona if he failed to sign a new contract, the Frenchman returned to action against Valencia, and Xavi said there was no problem between him and the player.
“I did not have a problem with Ousmane and I read everything,” he said.
